Search and Rescue (SAR) Training

ACA Inc. offers training courses in Search and Rescue (SAR), Tracking, Trailing, and Human Remains Detection (HRD).

There are several functions that the SAR K-9 may be used for. Some of these are: to assist in locating lost persons in remote, rural or wilderness areas, to locate victims that may be trapped in building collapse due to man made or natural disasters, to search for persons with dementia that may have wandered off from their caregivers. Each of these situations require different search methods and therefore require a variety of training methods to be employed to successfully train the K-9 SAR/Handler Team.

Not all dogs have the correct drive and temperament to become qualified SAR K-9's. Our SAR Instructors are trained to evaluate each individual dog and assess whether or not it has the basic abilities, drive and temperament to become a SAR K-9.

We offer individual and customized training for potential SAR K-9's and their handlers. Each training program is based upon what type of SAR functions the client wishes to become qualified to perform and to what level they wish to become proficient.

Our Head Trainer, Patricia Adams, is a member and "Trainer of Record" for Northeast Oklahoma Canine Search and Rescue, Inc. NEOC/SAR is a non-profit 501 c 3 volunteer organization.

Various SAR training programs may include any or all of the following:
*    Scent detection.
*    Article detection.
*    Human tracking and trailing.
*    Classroom training.
*    Vehicle deployment.
*    Hand signals and voice commands.
*    Rubble pile training.
*    Remote and wilderness training.
*    Urban SAR techniques.
*    Identifying and treating stress in K-9's.
*    Proper Nutrition and Hydration during high stress periods.
*    SAR techniques for locating persons with mental disorders.
*    SAR techniques for locating lost children.
*    Incident Command Structure.
